Helping Our Four Legged Friends
Troop 368, Juniors earned their Pet Care Badges and a Community Service Patch...
The girls headed up a food/item drive for the animals at Jasper Animal Rescue Mission and also collected over $60.00 in cash. They did this at O'Katie Elementary School as the drop point. They then invited the other two elementary schools and troops to participate. Denise, Nikki, and Amanda's troops participated at Bluffton Elementary. and MC Riley.
Troop 368 also worked booths for Friends of Bluffton Dog Parks, giving out cards and information, and maps. Ms. Charlotte Wamsler, President of the Bluffton future park, also visited the troop and talked about service dogs and did a presentation.
Dan Fuller, the head of Urban Search and Rescue (finding those who are lost or missing) came with part of his team and did a presentation for the girls. He talked about the dogs, care, cost, and mainly focused on safety, etc. His dog Dixie played "hide and seek" with the girls at McCracken Middle School.
On the next Sunday, the troop met Dan's Search Dogs and did a practice hide in the fields behind Jersey Mike's in Bluffton.
The troop also presented Dan's Team with a gas card, and also Ms. Charlotte with a pet bracelet for the holidays.
They are planning on helping do more practice with the search and rescue dogs in the future as well as a possible fund drive for them.
